Good Lock/Cable Combo
I bought this from a cycle shop as it looked like being just what I wanted - a combination U-Lock and cable. The assistant immediately tied to talk me out of it and into a more expensive Kryptonite option, but I held my ground.
It's really handy as the cable loops through, and secures, the front wheel preventing anyone from stealing it (while leaving the rest of the machine behind). If a thief has good bolt cutters you'll lose the wheel, but they'd then have the main lock to contend with if they want the rest of the bike - so why bother? It's like the old joke about the escaped lion, that ends: "I don't need to outrun the lion, I only need to outrun YOU!" If your bike's chained up in a public place next to other cycles, all you have to do is make yours appear more secure - i.e. less nickable - than the others, and any potential thief will hopefully pay no mind to yours. And that's exactly where this combo lock scores.
It also comes with a very handy bracket that secures to the bike allowing you to carry the lock around (but not the cable) without needing to lug it about in a backpack.
What put a bit of a downer on it for me was the fact that there are several vids on Youtube where owners show you how to open a Kryptonite lock using just a ballpoint pen! However, I am informed this issue has now been addressed. I've used this combo a lot of times now and it looks the business, and comes at a very reasonable price.
Good sensible purchase
As some one new to biking with a mid price bike, I did a lot of internet research on this lock combination. It is just right if you want a bit more security when out and about and no too heavy for either mounting on the bike or carrying in a rucksack. Plus this was the was the best price for this product when compared to getting it on-line elsewhere.
Good lock
This is a good secure lock. The cable that comes with it fits through both wheels.
